"p-adic estimates for
exponential sums"
Abstract. There is a long history of p-adic estimates for exponential
sums, going back to Stickelberger's computation of the p-divisibility of Gauss sums. The
Chevalley-Warning Theorem can also be viewed in this context. I'll
discuss some of this history and describe some recent work and open
problems.
